Introducing King of Planastel

Alright.

There is a game I want to make.

It might be called King of Planastel, it might be not, but I’m going with this title for the moment.

I want to work on a big project for a long time, but every time I tried, I eventually gave up because a great lack of skills, time and motivation. I hope creating this devblog might prevent it this time.

Since December 2011, I’ve made a dozen of games. Almost all of them have been made in less than a week/48h for various game jams, except two of them : Split Fighters and The Loft (which won’t be released since I’ve made it for a friend). The first one took me three months, the second one took me one month, they weren’t big project, but they were my biggest. Why did I manage to « finish » these ones ?

Well, Split Fighters and The Loft have something else in common : they’re about me, and my friends. Split Fighters is about a break-up I went through, and The Loft is about old memories of mine and a friend of mine.

If I want to work on another « big » project, maybe that’s what I should talk about : me and my friends. I’m not talking about auto-biography, I’m talking about things I’ve lived, things I’ve felt. It’s often said that you only should write about things you know, well, maybe it works with games as well.

So…this is what I want to talk about this time : me and my friends making a kids shack in the woods when we were 10, and filling them with our imagination.

  1. I also found devblog very useful to kept motivation high during long developments. What I have made is a secret pact with myself to force me to post something every weeks, with forces me to do something for the game every weeks. Even a tiny sprite drawn in ten minutes on sunday evening.
If I may comment this screenshot you’re showing us, I would say that the pixel size of the “proceed” button is not in coherence with the size of the other pixels, which is quite disturbing for such lowres arts.
I wish you good luck for this big project!

  2. This weekly pact is a good idea! I might do something like this!
About the pixel art, thanks for the comment,These aren’t the final graphics, juste a bunch of placeholders tied together. But yes, I’ve got a problem because I want to use lowres art, but I can’t make all the GUI in low res…I’ll hove to figure something out
